During the MI versus CSK match, MS Dhoni single-handedly revives IPL 2022 viewership: During the last night’s match between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, former CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni single-handedly helped the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 revive its viewership.
After leading his team to victory in a last-ball thriller at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai, Dhoni once again shown why he is still one of the best finishers in the game.
It’s worth noting that the Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen a drop in viewership this season. In comparison to the previous year, the IPL 2022 opening week ratings were down 33%.
This drop in viewership was a disappointment for the BCCI, particularly after the IPL’s growth. The addition of the two new teams was expected to entice more spectators, resulting in an increase in viewership, however things did not go as planned.
Though there are various elements that influence the Indian Premier League’s viewership, none of them are under the control of the officials.
According to experts, the poor performance of two of the most successful IPL teams, the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, has been a big factor in the fall in viewership.
The Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings haven’t been at their best in the Indian Premier League this season.
The former team has lost seven consecutive games and has yet to win in the competition, while the latter has only two wins under their belt, one of which came yesterday night.
The match between MI and CSK, MS Dhoni revived IPL viewership:
Everyone, including the organisers, had put their hopes on the match between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings to rekindle interest in the game, and the match between the arch-rivals delivered precisely what was expected.
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) held Mumbai Indians to a low total of 155 runs, and it appeared that the Super Kings would comfortably chase it down.
The new look of Mumbai’s bowling attack, on the other hand, worked wonders in terms of picking up timely wickets and putting pressure on the opposition.
After a lot of ebbs and flows, the game was evenly balanced in the final four overs. Throughout the match, the tide kept shifting between Mumbai and Chennai, providing the much-needed adrenaline for the fans.
With each passing minute, the competition became more exciting. The equation was becoming tense as Mumbai continued picking up wickets at the right time.
The peak viewing on Disney Plus Hotstar during the entire match was 7.8 million concurrent viewers, but it jumped to 8.3 million during the last over as MS Dhoni, the greatest finisher, stole the show against Mumbai Indians.
MS Dhoni’s stunning 13-ball 28 helped the IPL resurrect its viewership late in the season.
